Oogway goes Poopie.

Yesterday while watching Kung Fu Panda for honestly the millionth time, Adelaide told me that Oogway goes Poopie. Here is Oogway:

I asked whether he goes on the potty or in his shell, and she told me, "You're so funny." Well, thanks. But, really, she was the one who brought up poopie, and that is what is funny. Potty humor starts young.

Adelaide now likes to really tell me about her day when she gets home from school. The other day I asked her what she ate, and she told goldfish and juice. I wasn't sure if she was just remembering randomly some time she ate goldfish and juice, so I checked her daily sheet and sure enough, that is what she had. So I've been asking her every day now what she ate, who she played with, what she did. She loves finding the words to tell me.

Also, I haven't even begun to think about the implications of this, but Adelaide has decided she likes to count in odd numbers only. Quite rapidly, she will count off on anything with, "1, 3, 5, 7, 9!" Sometimes she will throw in some even numbers, never out of order, but sort of randomly, "2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10!" is a good example.

This week has been super hot. We put out a sandbox for Adelaide, and she adores it. We build sandcastles in a very particular manner.

On Sunday, we had a really nice afternoon. During her non-sleeping-nap-rest-time, I layed out and read a book. Then, we set up the sprinkler thinking Adelaide would love it. She has loved when daddy waters the trees he planted with the spray nozzle on the hose, and sticks her hand in. So, we figured the sprinkler would be a big hit. We were wrong. She waited very eagerly in her bathing suit with her towel and play horses while
"Daddy getting the water," but then when we turned in on she was like, "No, Ma'am!" I tried to go in to show her it was fun and she was horrified, going "No, mommy!" and turning away like I was being slaughtered in front of her eyes. So, we dug the blowup pool out instead, and had a blast in there. After we muddied ourselves up playing, we took a shower together and then cuddled up on the bed to rest and dry off. So sweet.

Plus, I had my statistics final Monday night, and I am done with class for 3 whole weeks! Woohoo!

No phone, no fun.

Last night I dropped my phone into a glass of water on my bedside table. I quickly retrieved it, wiped it down, took it apart and let it dry over night. This morning, it rebooted, but will not come totally back to life. So, I shall have to reschedule my first meeting tomorrow morning and head to the Sprint store. :-( The sad part is that I have been holding out to get the new Palm Pre, and it isn't out yet!

In any case, this means I can't upload photos of Ade and Dana playing this morning so sweetly. We had the Peich family over for brunch (apparently orthodox Easter brunch, though I didn't know it!) The girls sat so nicely at their little table while we all ate. They did Monkey See, Monkey Do by wiggling their heads at one another. It was pretty adorable. It gave me a chance to shovel some quiche in my mouth with both hands free while Susan and Eli told us about their trip to China. How nice to eat a meal and listen to conversation.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day here in NC. We played outside. Check out the snaps:

In other Adelaide news, she continues to pull words out of her vocab and surprise us. The other day while playing with some farm stickers, she told me "Spade" and correctly identified the not-shovel. Today she put a piece in her puzzle and told me, "Kite. Diamond." While I knew that she liked kites, I was surprised at the shape identification. She has also been practicing her full name. It sounds sort of like "Add-lade M'Ln." Close enough.

Sorry for the wet HooHoo.

Every night Adelaide sleeps with a stuffed owl from Pottery Barn Baby, and a quilt folded like a pillow that my mom made her. Both, especially HooHoo, get really gross and dirty. Ade wipes tears and snot on HooHoo nightly. However finding enough time to get HooHoo through a wash cycle is a challenge to say the least.

Today, I started my day by doing a toy purge and packing the Easter decor back up. I threw quilt and HooHoo into the wash, and was proud I was able to get the house in such working order before 9am, the start of my work day. The water utility guys knocked on the door and told me they would be shutting the water off. Luckily, the washer was done with its cycle, so I put HooHoo and quilt into the dryer and ran to shower during the 10 minutes I begged them to leave my water on. Then, I ran to the office to begin my calls. At 10am the HVAC guy came. I handled him while also managing conference calls. I handled my regular job, HR nightmares, employee checkpoints, made an eye doctor appointment, and also managed an executive project I am handling. I created spreadsheets, slides, and managed about 200 emails. I made an egg salad sandwich from dyed Easter eggs while on the phone for lunch. I hardly stopped for 2 seconds to worry about my miserable sinus infection, and powered through. I managed to make a slide update just in time for my upline management, and also negotiated a new leader for a corporate WG to fill a spot we were starting to look very red on. I handled my organization's Twitter account, and answered student emails. I prepared for my MBA class, and looked up swim lessons at the YMCA for Ade.

However. I did not check the dryer. Sitting in class here tonight, desperately trying to care about statistics, I get a text from Ryan that HooHoo and quilt are still soaking wet and Ade is having a fit for bedtime. Oh miserable mommy guilt. Sorry to Ade who needs her lovies to fall asleep peacefully, and sorry to Daddy for having to deal with it. It was a mistake of the worst kind. I try to keep priorities straight, but sometimes I leave things in the dryer. I am so so sorry for the wet HooHoo.

Easter galore

Adelaide has taken to exclaiming "Whoa!" anything delights her, mouth a small round O. She said Whoa a lot this weekend ;-)
Thursday Ade had a "practice" egg hunt at school. When she came home Thursday, I couldn't believe what a little girl she has grown into. She came in carrying her basket, and telling me all about her day.

Friday we hung out with Aunt Jenna while daddy worked at home. We dyed Easter eggs, and didn't even make a mess. After a nice nap, we played and went out to eat with Aunt Jenna and Uncle Jon. That night, Ryan and I just chilled out.

Yesterday we hung out in the morning. Adelaide even joined mommy for a nice warm shower. Afterwards, Ade relaxed wrapped in a towel while I made her some hot chocolate. Combine that with her love of having her toenails painted, and you know she is totally ready for the spa. Last night I went shopping with Jenna, and had a really good mall trip. I found the stuff I wanted/needed, and also felt relaxed. There was hardly anyone out shopping, so that definitely helped.

I really had so much fun preparing stuff for Adelaide's Easter, and hiding eggs for her. I delighted in that as much as I think she enjoyed finding them this morning! I almost couldn't wait for her to get up this morning to find them! She had such a great time, though she wanted to open each one and eat what was inside immediately. That slowed down progress. I think next year the Easter bunny will put more stickers in the eggs and less candy.

Currently she is napping, though naps have become about 50/50 on weekends unfortunately. (BTW, I cannot read I Love You Forever without crying my eyes out. Must hide that book...) After her nap, we set up a ball pit outside because it is another gorgeous NC spring day. Ryan is gonna cook us a nice ham, mac-n-cheese, and asparagus for dinner. Mmmm... Ryan and I plan to watch a movie, and eat cheesecake (which the Easter bunny kindly brought me!) tonight.

It has been a really lovely weekend so far, and I can't say how blessed and happy I feel to have such a wonderful little family. I could never ever have predicted how much having a little nugget would change my life. While I always love my precious daughter, I do not always love being a parent. This weekend I have loved both. In fact, I think Adelaide says it best in this video clip:

Mommy Do It.

This story is one we've told a few times, but I forgot to post it. As I mentioned previously, Little Miss Independent had taken to telling us AddyDoIt for everything. Well, Adelaide figured out she could use this to mean more than the things she wanted to do - she could also communicate what she did NOT want to do. I asked her to throw something in the trash and a look of realization came over her face as she handed the trash back to me and said, "Mommy do it." There you have it.

Last weekend we went to a Renaissance Festival with the Franks and Adelaide fell in LOVE with riding the ponies.

She did not want to ever stop riding the ponies. She really loves horses, like any good little princess.

I will have to post some further updates this weekend over our lovely Easter weeken. Look for more soon! I am being called right now to go to Target so we can dye Easter eggs ;-)
