2015 wrap-up
I am a naughty naughty blogger this year. I have done a terrible job at keeping this up to date; so, instead of being a 2015 summary post, this will be a catch-up post.
2014:
2015:
- Adelaide grew hair! It is long now - touch her butt long when it is wet. Curly hair gets very tangled, btw. Very. Dreads. She also is now wearing glasses. She was thrilled to discover she needed them, and picked out a pair because of the pink lizard pattern on the inside of the stems.- We traveled again. In fact, I am writing this from our last getaway of the year in Charleston. We also went to Tampa, Puerto Rico, Pittsburgh, Boston, and Dallas. Ryan and I went on a big trip to Lisbon, Portugal with a stop in London. I traveled for business to a ton of places, but I really enjoyed seeing Santa Barbara, which was beautiful. Jenna and I also had a girls getaway to Dallas, where we got tattoos. Because, that's what we do.
- My dear girl Cheyenne did not make another Christmas with us. I had warned Ryan before that I would need him to take the Cheyenne ornaments out in advance, but then I told him not to. I am glad. Remembering and honoring is as important as grieving. That is the lesson loss has taught me with both Gigi and Cheyenne.
- From a business perspective, this year has been by far the most trying of my career. It has tested my friendships, my ethics, and my leadership. Both Krista and Briana moved on to roles outside of PointSource, many of our bets as a business did not come through, and we fell into discord as an executive team. On the other hand, we moved into an amazing new space and had many great people join the company. I know I learned a lot about what I want in any business I am part of. As we turn the bend into 2016, I think we are back on firmer footing. I got offered an amazing dream job at another company, and turned it down. This year made me consider very carefully what matters most. And, a few more major stage events - including 15k audience! - and an article published in Fast Company. Oh, and I won Silver for Tech Exec of the Year award.
- Adelaide gives the sagest advice of any 8 year old ever. She is so much still a goofy kid, but also filled with such poise and maturity. I admire her. Recently I was struggling with a decision I needed to make, and I was about to ask Ade's opinion when I had to stop myself. Although I would have found it comforting to talk to her, I had to remember she is still only 8. I can't put the weight of adult concerns on her mind. My hope grows that as she gets older, we will be good friends.
- Ade loves Minecraft, and started an amazing Instagram account of her builds. She is very into "teenage" things as she puts it, watching shows like Jessie and tons of YouTubers.
- YOGA! I became a bit obsessed with yoga this year. Generally, we all stayed pretty healthy, until the last part of the year. Ryan unfortunately broke his collarbone on a trail run. So, that put a damper on things a bit. He needed surgery, with a plate and 6 screws. Poor buddy. This Winter (which has been unusually warm - in the 70s!) we all got hit with germs and viruses. Ade caught pneumonia the week before Christmas. Hoping we got our immune systems back up for 2016.
- We sold the blasted house! Bye bye Queensland, you albatross! Sigh. Now we have to decide whether it is time to build the dream home on the big plot of land... Hidden Lake is calling us...
- Adelaide has a 2016 goal for herself "Have a successful year with Sylvester." Sylvester is her Christmas gerbil. :-) Ryan's goal are to stop yelling, and not break any bones. I am going to work on saving some of my patience and tolerance after long days at work for when I get home, and stay true to what I know is right.
Now, because I was so naughty all year, here are more pics to commemorate some the awesome times in 2015. You were a rough year, 2015, but you taught us a lot.
