Blowing raspberries

After a very rough weekend when Ade's Prilosec lost its potency (its a special compounded suspension liquid that must be refrigerated) and mama slept sitting up with baby on her chest (if we laid her down she coughed, choked, and threw up), Ade is back to "normal" finally. We got her fresh medication, and changed to a 14-day prescription so this doesn't happen again.

I am also happy to report that Ryan has been going up to lay in bed with Ade a few nights a week so that I can do some stuff around the house, or sit and read a book. It really helps to not be prisoner every night. Also, Ade is starting to change her schedule a little so that she takes a nap while we eat dinner and then goes to bed. Very kind of her really.

It seems that today she learned how to blow raspberries. Check out a video.

Sh also loved when Angela sang Itsy Bitsy Spider to her - she has been grasping her hands and wringing her fingers.

She is a happy baby!

Roly poly

Although she has done it a few times before, Adelaide really mastered the skill of rolling over this week (tummy to back). She is also getting really good at using her hands - she grabs and reaches for things all the time. She loves to hold her pooh rattle and stick it in her mouth, and she also loves to stick her hand into mommy and daddy's mouth (kind of fishhook style).

Here is a video of her rolling over.

I feel pretty tired this weekend - I think going back to work has caught up with me, and I am just a little worn out. Ade's takes good naps in her crib for Angela, but not for mommy and daddy. We keep trying. She is on a pretty good schedule. She was eating every two hours (9, 11, 1, 3, 5), but now we are stretching her to 2.5-3 hours between feedings. Today she did 9, 11:30, 2 so far. At night she still wants to go to sleep by 6pm, and then eats around 11, 2, 5. If she lost that 2am, we would be all set! Oh, yea, and if she slept in her crib instead of our bed :-) And also if she would take a bottle. Oh well, she is adorable.

We drove around the Tri-County Parade of Homes today a little, and she was good in the car. We went in 3 or 4 houses, and she wasn't so amused. She tolerated it, but just barely. Ryan and I plan to sell this place next spring and find somewhere with more land. The Wake County parade starts next week - I look forward to snooping in houses all year long. I can't wait to get out next weekend on my own and really be able to look. I need to map out my route to maximize my free time!!!

Bumbo!

One week of work done! It was both harder and easier than I expected. We are settling into a routine, but Ade still won't take a bottle. Figuring her feeding times into my meeting times is kind of rough. Also, Ade wants to go to bed at like 5:30 now, which means I barely finish working and get any food in me before I am forced to the bedroom for 13 hours. There are certainly still issues we need to work out, but she is feeling better and that is the most important thing. Fingers crossed - the meds still seem to be helping.

Ade is also big enough now to sit in her Bumbo chair, and she is absolutely adorable in it. Check her out!

We are still just taking things one day at a time. We are trying to get her to sleep in her new Amby Baby bed. First try was a nap yesterday and it went pretty well. She fell asleep with about 10 minutes of me bouncing her, but then she only took her usual 30 minute nap. As soon as she wakes up and sees no one is there she starts crying, no matter where she is laying - Amby, crib, sofa, swing... We will keep trying...

Hi ho, Hi ho, It's off to work I go...

I am now officially a working mother :-) I had almost 4000 emails when I logged on yesterday. Yes. 4000. And that doesn't include the spam that was caught and deleted by my filters. My email account was locked and is still right on the brink of the size limit. I spent all day just trying to organiz, delete, and reset expired passwords. I think today will be the same. Maybe I will get to start actually reading some of the emails...

It was a tough day having someone else play with my baby for hours, especially when I could hear her crying. But, Angela is awesome. She sent me photo pics form her camera of Ade happy and smiling so I knew things were okay. Also, my coworker, Rich, sent me flowers to welcome me back! It was so sweet it made me cry. In fact, I couldn't close the door on the delivery lady fast enough so that I didn't cry right in front of her!

Ade's med situation is this: Prilosec helps, but doesn't do the whole job. We have now added Axid back again. She seemed better after I gave her that midday yesterday. We will just keep at it. Also, the ped thinks I should just avoid dairy as much as possible and hope she outgrows it with the colic between 3-4 months. No more ice cream for me?!?!? I thought the dietary restrictions were bad when I was pregnant and they are worse now!

Oh, and I forgot to mention I was also a single mother this weekend. Ryan went out of town for a bachelor party, so it was just me and Ade most of the weekend. I would have gone crazy if it wasn't for Aunt Jenna. We love Aunt Jenna. For any single mothers out there - bless your hearts. I don't know how you do it.

Adelaide is also addicted to television. I am hoping this isn't too bad for 2.5 month old... She likes to watch Sports Center in the morning with her daddy:

Is this the one?

Now we are on Prilosec - so far, so good. She slept much better last night, fussing only from 5-5:45am. The other times she woke up, she only took a few sucks and fell back to sleep.

It was like waking up another person getting all that sleep! Even Angela said we both seemed like new people. I went to Target today while Angela was here. First time leaving the house while Ade was with her nanny - all was well. Also, Skylar, Angela's 14 month daughter, gave me a big cuddle today. I am so glad I found them. This really works out soo well. Skylar had reflux too, so Angela knows and understands Ade's needs.

Fingers crossed that Prilosec is the right drug finally...

Escape from Adelaide

It is such a terrible shame that a little person should come into the world and spend her first months battling feeling miserable all the time, and that her poor mother isn't able to enjoy her maternity leave bonding with her sweet daughter. I find that I have been constantly looking to "escape" Adelaide - wishing she would fall asleep, hoping someone would come over and help, praying for just an hour out of the house. I know this is somewhat normal for new mothers, but I just want more time to be happy time. Adelaide's reflux/colic/high-needs/angry baby diagnosis makes it so tough for all of us.

Slowly, things have been getting better as Ade gets older, but her reflux is still bad and we are still on the medication-go-round. We have been trying the Axid, Levsin, Prevacid combo, but I think she is worse. She threw up twice today, and she doesn't normally do that. She is also sleeping so fitfully. We ordered an Amby Baby, so let's see if it delivers what it promises.

This weekend we did take Ade to lunch at Village Deli, and also for a walk in the park. It is nice to start trying to do things that incorporate her as part of the family, instead of Ryan and I each only ever taking our own time away from the house.

I have posted some new pics on dotphoto so check them out. As Angela, the nanny said, she has no shortage of cuteness! I think my Ryan mini-me daughter actually looks a little like me in this photo:
