A day in the life

I have made a grown-up decision: I am taking a semester off from my MBA classes. Yes, I am going to be reasonable, and put my little family first.

Ade was far worse on the Prevacid - choking, coughing, rasping, crying - so back to the pediatrician we went yesterday. Again, she was a sweetheart and slept in the car. Now she is back on Axid (max dosage) and a new med called Levsin. She is already feeling better I can tell, and allowing us to lay her down while she is sleeping during the day. Well, only on a pillow on the couch and nowhere else. But still.

I can't say the number of times I have started crying the past two weeks. She has been feeling so awful, constantly eating or crying. It has been ROUGH. On top of it, Cheyenne is still chewing these two wounds she made on her feet, and Dakota has ear infections in both ears. Yeesh, kids!

To give you an idea of our typical day...
7am - wake up with daddy, smile and play a little
Maybe fall back to sleep...
if Yes... mommy gets dressed, brushes teeth, washes face
if No... beg daddy to hold her before he rushes to work so mommy can at least brush teeth
8am - change diaper and put on Ade's clothes, head downstairs
8:30am - Ade nurses
9am - Dr Phil
10am - Ellen
11am - Martha
9-11am - if Ade sleeps (usually at least an hour), mommy makes decaf coffee, cleans up, does laundry
11:30am - Ade lunches, mommy tries to eat as well
12-3pm - totally up in the air - sometimes a nap, sometimes just crying
(During the day, we also might go outside for a walk in the bjorn, get the mail, play in bouncer, vacuum, or watch Baby Mozart DVD)
4:30pm -daddy comes home
5pm - take care of girls, daddy starts dinner
6pm - take turns eating and holding Ade; Ade eats dinner
7pm - start to get Ade ready for bed, change into pajamas
8pm - watch TV in bed, nurse Ade; daddy joins us to watch some TV
9pm - sleep; daddy goes downstairs
11pm - daddy comes to bed
11-12 - Ade's midnight snack
2-3am - another snack; move Ade to daddy's side of the bed
4:30am - another snack
6am - another snack
... and then it's a new day and we start over...

On good days, Ade naps for two 2-hour naps in the day, and lets me put her down for at least an hour during each nap. She also might sleep for a 3 hour stretch at night. On a bad day, she is not out of someone' arms except at diaper changes, and we spend hours walking and bouncing while she cries, and we cry too.

We head to the beach tomorrow - I spent a good hour and a half this morning while she slept on Ryan getting stuff together and packed. We have enough baggage that you'd think we were moving to another continent for a month, not going 3 hours away for 3 nights. Well, wish us luck!

Hey there Stephanie. Well, I can only sympathize with you. Ethan was the same type of baby and we had the worst time. We got luckier this time with Jason so keep that in mind (otherwise Jeff and I may never have had another). I would never presume to tell you what to do but I can share what worked for me and let you decide. He was so colic stricken and had acid reflux and I wanted to try and avoid meds. I was nursing every 2 hours for 40 minutes and it was just not working for either of us. I ended up supplementing and the only thing that worked for him was Soy formula - only the expensive ready made of course, no powder. And it worked better than my breast milk (which made me miserable at first, feeling guilty) but he kept it down and was happy! And we had a swing. My only rest and free time when it was really bad was when Ethan was in that swing. I would get about 30 minutes but it was bliss. My thoughts are with you and if you want to talk, commiserate or just cry, I am so there for you. It was the hardest 9 months of my life. But of course, we wouldn't trade it for anything. :-) Love, Jenn
