OBX and more OBX
We thought we would try something new this year and go to the mountains - we enjoyed it. But, we couldn't stay away from OBX. ;-) We took Ade's last week of track-out, and headed to the beach. This time, I planned to work a little while there, we brought the dogs, and we decided to stay right on the beach for the first time. I'd call those choices mostly a success!
We arrived Saturday, settled in while Ryan grabbed groceries, and headed to Black Pelican for dinner. We spent a little time on the beach, though it was fairly cold.

After a gorgeous sunrise, Sunday Ryan went for a long run, while Ade and I hung out on the beach all morning. She played near the water, ran, danced, pranced, and generally loved the crap out of it while I mostly read. Being right on the water was fabulous for running back inside for coffee, water, letting the dogs in from the back porch, etc. We hit Mama Kwan's for lunch and then a little outlet shopping. Ryan watched football while I went to Walmart, and we had shrimp for dinner at the house. The day was gorgeous and so relaxing.

Monday was a rainy day. We painted pottery, had lunch at Franks, and went back for me to do some work and meetings. Afterwards, we ate thai takeout, and went to see Hotel Transylvania.

Tuesday, another rainy day, I started the day with meetings, then we headed to Duck for lunch at Fishbones and some shopping. I got a facial at Aqua. We relaxed at the beach house for a bit, and then off to Tortuga Lie for dinner. We also decorated a pumpkin for the porch. Why not?

Wednesday was a bit of a mess. Dakota, the strange dog that she is, had regrown one of her dew claw toes a while back. It was fine at the first vet check, but then it started to grow again, and she was chewing at it. She needed to have it removed and biopsied before we left. When we woke up Wednesday morning, she had chewed all of the bandaging off, and opened all of the stitches. We spent the morning on the beach in the sunny weather, and then Ryan headed to a local vet with dodo in tow. They kept her to fix her back up. We had lunch at Barefoot Bernie's and then Ryan picked Dakota back up while Ade and I spent more time at the beach. With her big cone, she earned a lot of nicknames throughout the week: DaCONEa, Shovelhead, Coneface, Conehead, Dispenser, etc. Ade wanted to see the dunes, so went and walked like Bedouins across the sands, and visited kitty hawk kites. We met Matt and Rachel for dinner at Food Dudes, and it was great to see them. Ade was so well behaved, and patient, and well-mannered. She makes us so proud. ;-)

Thursday was another great weather day. Another morning on the beach after some Stack Em High pancakes. When I took a walk with Ade she met more dogs and fish. Every grandma-woman wanted to comment on her curls, and every redneck fisherman seemed to have something to say to mama... hmm... I did a late morning meeting, and then we headed to try Spanky's for lunch and onto the Carrituck lighthouse. We enjoyed the afternoon shopping around, and went to Rundown Cafe for dinner after a bit more beach time.

Friday was out day to head home so we could be home for Vivian's 2nd bday party Saturday morning. We made the most of the time we had Friday by having one last coffee out on the sand. We went to Duck for lunch at the cantina on the water, and a little last shopping.

When we headed back, we cleaned up, packed up, and stuffed all the remaining fudge into our mouths. We bid a very sad farewell. The day was gorgeous, and it had been such a relaxing trip. I so much enjoyed being right on the water, and reading Camus on the beach. I even spent some time writing in the evenings. It just felt like the right kind of life, and I wished it was the one we got to have every day. But, yes, of course, then it wouldn't be special anymore. So, back home we went.
We love you, OBX, and we always will.
