Celebrating in PA!

To celebrate Mother's Day and my thirtyfifthahem birthday, we headed to Pittsburgh for the weekend. My awesome tiny grandma who shares that same birthday weekend with me had a cake decorated for us both, so we started off right with some cake and singing.

Saturday we headed to the Malloys where we played away most of the day. Ade and Mya had a blast building an elaborate home for a worm. We love them all fiercely.

We visited Nino and Noni. Nino regaled me with interesting war stories, including how he came to possess a German Nazi hat. Apparently, his best friend in the war, Rudy, saw a German soldier make an American soldier eat cow manure, and then shot him in the head. So, Rudy made the German eat cow manure and then he shot him in the head. (This is all said matter of factly, but now a tone of incredulous disbelief creeps into Nino's voice for the climax of the tale...) And THEN, Rudy took the dead German soldier's hat!!! Yes, that is the kicker of the story. Rudy gave my grandpa the hat. Meanwhile, my grandma produces from out of nowhere a war award to my grandpa from the country of France, made to Monsieur Trunzo. Oh, those odd visits never disappoint.

Sunday we went downtown and grabbed some Oakland Primanti. Then to the Carnegie, where Ade was enthralled with the dinosaurs as would be expected. Since it was Mother's Day proper, my mom and I did a little ladies-only shopping while Ade stayed home with the boys.

Monday we visited the greats in the morning, and then Ryan and I celebrated my birthday by wandering around the Strip District and delighting in all the yumminess. Then we hit Church Brew Works for some beer and pierogies. The heavenly french onion soup!!! Ade kept the Guhs busy - they went to a movie, rode a carousel, shopping for toys... Aunt Mimi met us back at the house and we ate birthday cupcakes.

It was a great, relaxed, fun-filled trip. Thanks to all of my PA family and friends. Although I certainly don't miss the weather, I do miss you.
