OBX with the Guhs

Our long weekend in the Outer Banks with my parents didn't exactly get off to a great start. After my parents made the long drive down, we went to get Ade, and ended up in the urgent care getting her stitches.

Luckily, the next day (although we had to skip soccer) our first day at the beach was a success. After a smooth drive out, we found we adored the house we had rented. Grandma, mommy and Ade went for a walk at the beach while Grandpa rested and dad went to get the groceries. Then we headed to Black Pelican. Ade was a bit of a grump during dinner from missing her nap, btu she went off to bed that night with no problem.

Sunday we commenced the beach activities with sand castle building and wave fun. The fun in the waves lasted all weekend and involved making a call in advance of whether the wave would cover toes, ankles, legs, or butt. This evolved eventually into waves that didn't reach even toes as "chicken" waves or foamies. It was interesting for me to see how even in 2 months what interested Ade had already evolved.

For lunch we had Capt'n George of course. During nap, mom and I went into Duck for a poke around. Ade woke cranky as could be. We took her to Captain George's while my parents went their own way, and had an awful time. She was still a little feverish and sick. She went to bed nicely again, but that night I ended up in bed with her.

Monday we beached it in the morning, and had pizza for lunch. We all hung out and relaxed during nap in the afternoon. Then we all went into Duck to shop and snack. Ryan and I went out for our anniversary dinner (6 years) to Ocean Blvd, a cool martini beach front place. Unfortunately, partway into the meal, we got a text that Ade was being cranky and wanted mommy. We kind of rushed through the rest of the meal, but the martinis helped make it a nice meal anyhow.

Tuesday we left Grandpa at home and went to the Pea Island park we love. Due to the big waves, there were more people there than normal. I watched a crab dig his little house for a long while, and we got some awesome shells. After quick lunch, Ryan and my parents all went out on their own beach explorations while I stayed and worked during nap. We went back to the Black Pelican again for dinner, and then took a final walk on the beach. Tons of jellyfish had washed up dead and nasty, which Ade found amazing.

Wednesday we headed back, and returned to reality.

After our lovely weekend, we had a rough end to the week. We got Ade's stitches out and it was another trauma due to stitch #5. Ade amazed me again with her bravery, but none the less, she also broke my heart, saying, "I want mommy to take it out! I don't want it to hurt me anymore!" I ended up having to lay down on the table and hold her on top of me to get that last one out. The first 4 were easy peasy.

Then, yesterday, Ryan took Chey in to the vet because she has been having trouble eating. I heard him come home with no Chey and i just couldn't take one more thing. They kept her for xrays and u/s. It turned out in the end they found nothing, but yesterday morning I was so worried for my first baby who is undeniably starting to get older...

Tomorrow is Jenna's baby shower here in NC, so I have been getting everything in order for that. It should be fun!

Then, next weekend, we are off to Beantown to see Grammy and Grampy! Busy busy busy!!!
