Nanny down
We got the worst news yesterday, and it threw us into a bit of a tailspin. First, Angela texted me to let me know she wasn't feeling well. One of the drawbacks of having individual care is that if they are sick, you have no one to watch the baby. These are the times when I realize how hard it is to live without any family around. We have no one to really call in an emergency. Between Ryan and I we pared down our day to the most important meetings, and just made the best of it.
However, I knew something more was wrong. Angela let me know later in the day that she was going to have to stop watching Ade. She has had both of her knees scoped, and watching both the kids up and down the stairs have made them worse. She hasn't healed properly. Also, with Adelaide being such a needy little baby, Angela hasn't been able to give Skylar the attention she needs. So, she had to make the tough choice to look after her health and family first. Ryan and I completely understand her choice, but we were also in a total panic. Having Angela around, someone I have loved and trusted, has made all the difference in the world to me going back to work.
We really debated whether we should try to find someone else to come into the house (but what if they leave again after a few months, or what if we can't find anyone we like...). I didn't want to put Adelaide into daycare yet - she won't eat while she is there! Alas, I think that is exactly what we are going to have to do. I contacted the other woman I interviewed when I was on maternity leave, and she is watching another family. I also contacted several of the local daycares hoping they would have room in their infant care. The Kiddie Academy that is within walking distance had one opening. We went up yesterday afternoon, took a tour, and visited the infant room for awhile. Ade was fascinated watching the other little kids play. She would be the youngest in the room... We did go ahead and enroll her (first and last week, and deposit - over $600!), and plan to figure out how to wait until she is around 5 months to start her. Angela will be coming this week and next, and then I think Ryan and I can both WAH until Thanksiving week. We will start her at the daycare slowly, and I can run up and breastfeed her since it is so close.
Ryan and Jenna both think maybe it will end up for the better - Ade might really like being with other kids her own age, and mommy might focus more on work. Who knows. In any case, I am glad to have had Angela and Skylar here for a few months, and plan to stay close.
