The tiny hospital gown...

I think we have been officially indoctrinated into parenthood because we had our first middle of the night trip to the ER. Just when Ade started to seem to be getting better, and over croup, she began throwing up nonstop Thursday night. She was exhausted. She would fall asleep only to wake up and throw up again 20 minutes later. She got the point where she was throwing up only bright yellow stomach acid, and had no energy left. So, off to the ER, where she caused quite a stir. Everyone was like, "What a pretty baby! She could be in commercials." They were calling people in to look at her. I was thinking, yes, she is pretty and SICK! Please fix her and admire her blue eyes later! :-)

They put her in the tiniest gown, and seeing her sitting so little in that giant hospital bed is an image I will never erase from my mind. They had to try three times to get the IV into her dehydrated baby vein. She has bruises on her arms and hand now. I had to try to keep her distracted the whole time, and I would have done ANYTHING to keep her from paying attention to what was happening to her. They also had to use a catheter to get a pee sample, and take blood. They gave her some Zofran (funny, that's what I was on when she was in my belly making me nauseous every day) to help with her nausea.

I ended up sitting in the bed with her, holding her sleeping while the IV did its work. They had her arm strapped to a board so she wouldn't rip the IV out, but she still kept waving it around.

Friday we had the closing on part of our loan for the new house and we HAD to do it before people left for the holidays, so we ended up going to the bank with Ade in tow wearing clothes we slept in covered in snot and vomit. It was a nice moment.

Thankfully, after a day of mostly sleep, and a night of Ryan and I taking turns sleeping sitting up with her, she is in much better spirits.

We had our little family's Christmas this morning, and exchanged gifts. Ade loves what Santa brought her! :-) Now we are getting ready to pack for our big airplane adventure to Boston! Look out, Jet Blue, here we come!
