Hanging with Ade

Thought I would share some Adelaide anecdotes...
  • Nearly anything Ade wants, she indicates she will ask Santa for. And if we say there is no such thing as a stuffed Bonnie from Toy Story 3, she says that's ok because the elves can just make it. She does understand Santa doesn't generally make clothes or food; otherwise, everything is fair game.
  • Ade likes to drag her stool everywhere so that she can do *everything* by herself. I said I wanted a chocolate, and she said she would get it. When Ryan asked if he could have one as well, she replied, "Why certainly!" She even filled her own cup with water from the fridge dispenser.
  • The other day on the way home I had already picked up Chinese food for dinner when Ade said she wanted nuggets. I explained we needed to eat what we already had, and she rephrased to ask please and how much she really wanted nuggets. I said I would stop for nuggets but going forward she would need to eat whatever we were having. A little ways down the road, she said, "Mommy, would it be easier to get nuggets tomorrow?" I was amazed that she came up with a compromise even after she was going to get the nuggets. Sweetie.
  • The other day Adelaide was busily drawing, one her favorite and most impressive pastimes, and she brought her drawing over to show us. We looked and she had written her own name - the whole thing! - by herself! Wow!
  • Ade's drawing is most impressive. She is drawing things that I know takes a sophisticated visual understanding. For example, she draws a frog with bulging eyes, like an upside down U, rather than a circle, and she draws his back legs with depth so that they are big hunched legs behind his body. She draws from her memory and imagination with great detail, like mermaids from a cartoon she has seen.
  • Although she has given up most of her naps, she is doing a great job at bedtime.
  • She started at Little Gym again in the big girl class, where the parents don't come in with the kids. She loves it. She is SO controlled at managing her impulses. She does exactly what the instructor asks. For example, if the teacher asks them to sit, and then goes to change the music, even when ALL the other kids get up, Ade sits and waits for the next direction.
  • The other morning Ade suddenly started crying and said, "Why did Star have to go to heaven? I miss her! I want to see her again!" Then of course what followed... "Are the dogs going to get old?" UG! Stab in me in the heart!
  • Oh, and I think I forgot to post that we got an awesome new BMW in December which Adelaide named Buster. :-)
This weekend grandma came to visit, and ended up staying several extra days due to good old PA snow. The weather here was awesome, and we had a fairy picnic.

Grandma also watched Ade one night while Ryan and I went out with Mike and Briana for a fabulous meal. So nice to relax and enjoy an adult dinner now that Ade is old enough we aren't rushing through the meal to get home!

The big news this week is that I took the day off to transform Ade's room from a toddler/nursery to a little girl's room! The hard work was completely worth it when she saw it! She has been so excited about it all week.
